Ocean Hermit – sailing, solitude and stories

My plans to retrace Captain Cook's unfinished voyage have been postponed a year while I work on the next Marine Diesel Basics book and get my new boat SV Oceandrifter ready for sea.

* Every dream takes hard work towards its fulfillment

Kuan Yin setting sail from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, in August 2009 on her way to Labrador after a major refit.  My friend Don Roht took this photo and many others, some of which I’l be posting in an album shortly.  Don and Rupert Hummel came out in an inflatable just before sunrise in August to watch the departure as she set out eastwards on Lake Ontario towards the St. Lawrence River.

Kuan Yin and I managed to reach Rimouski, Quebec, on the south coast of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, from where i’ll be setting out this summer to go north to Labrador.  My sincere thanks also to Tom (who worked so hard with me on the refitting) and Jiri who both sailed aboard the boat from Toronto.

Kuan Yin departs Toronto, Canada, August 2009.

Hello –whose journey will you be retracing up to Labrador? I think I read on your site your retracing the journey, in 1811, of an Inuit person, to Ungava Bay? Any more details on that journey?

    Thanks,
    Jud
